Can you sing, act or dance? Interested in costuming or makeup? How about painting backdrops or managing props? Theatre Guild members participate onstage or behind the curtain. But every show also needs…an audience. So come and play or come and watch. It’s all about fun and community. Want to pick up some skills? We offer workshops to members in all facets of theatre.     Barbara Turino is returning to teach a second semester with Theatre Guild. She is a professional facilitator, trainer, speaker, executive coach, published author, actor and owner of PROS, LLC. Her personal mission statement is to assist people in reaching their full potential and learning tools that can be put into practice immediately, while having fun.  She is the author of the book entitled Getting Your Act Together. She believes that everyone is on stage every day, with a role to play in the show called life, and an audience who will hopefully give rave reviews and demand encore performances. Barb ‘s workshops will be fun and interactive and will include skills that can be used by an actor to enhance their performance and can also be used in everyday life to improve relationships and results.

    Her 5-week series of workshops will include:

    Learning and practicing various acting techniques from Meisner, Uta Hagen, Chekov including character development, scene study, reality in acting, auditioning, memorization, emotional preparation, improv, Act As If and much more. These classes will be beneficial to new and returning students. There is something for everyone in Barb’s workshops regardless of acting experience.

    Paul Kratzer returns this fall to teach his very popular, one day, Seven Basics of Drama Workshop.

    Paul's experience includes touring for ten years with a repertory theater company that performed around Europe, Africa and the USA.  He also taught short drama workshops of all kinds which he continues to do today.  Since coming to Laguna Woods, Paul has acted in numerous roles, including: Chasing Dreams, Baby Boomer Blues, Steamboat Malta and Café Murder (which he also Directed).

    In this interactive workshop you will be focusing on body control, stagecraft, eye contact, learning lines, character development and more...

    Working with Paul is fun and entertaining!

    Kate Jacobs will be leading this Workshop.

    Kate been performing since childhood on the stage, screen, radio and TV.  She is formally trained and held numerous roles including many in LW theater productions.  Her class on Voice and Diction is always full and she really enjoys sharing her knowledge with others.

    In this workshop you will learn how to project, use inflection and present your best self when delivering lines, etc.

    Jeanne Sanner is back with us this fall teaching her 8 Axioms of Acting Workshop. Quite an accomplished actor, director, singer, coach, orchestra conductor and producer, she's experienced in all aspects of the theater Arts.  She's performed in major theaters and directed an array of musicals, comedies and dramas, including: The Fantastics, Steel Magnolias, Twelve Angry Jurors and most recently, Nigh Watch here in Laguna Woods Village. Jeanne successfully ran her own acting studio, Class Acting Academy. 

    The Eight Axioms of Acting Course covers: 1. learn how to create a believable character, 2.understand the true role of emotion in acting, 3. learn the skills needed for superior acting, 4. discover a character's true purpose, 5. experience the value of movement/blocking, 6. experience the two elements of action, 7. participate in dialogue analysis, 8. emphasis on staying in the now.
